Full Eye Examination for Children
Children are recommended to have their eyes checked by an optometrist at least once 6-monthly or yearly from age 3 onwards.
Hidden eye conditions such as lazy eyes, squint eyes can be detected easily by an optometrists and treated with good prognosis before the age of 9.
A basic pediatric eye examination would include:
Refraction (checking of power)
Binocular vision assessment (detecting lazy eyes, squint eyes etc)
Colour vision assessment
Anterior eye health assessment (checking of the health of corneas, eyelids, eye lashes etc)
A complete pediatric eye examination would include:
Abovementioned
Eye pressure
Posterior ocular health (checking of the retina, optic nerve etc)
Full Eye Examination for Adults
Adults are recommended to have their eyes checked by an optometrists yearly, and 6-monthly for adults who have systemic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure.
Digital eye strains, headaches, cataracts etc can be detected with an optometrist eye check.
A full eye examination for adults would include:
Refraction (checking of power such as long-, short-sightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia)
Binocular vision assessment (detecting digital eye strains, lazy eyes, squint eyes etc)
Colour vision assessment
Anterior eye health assessment (checking of the health of corneas, eyelids, eye lashes etc, this is especially required for contact lens wearers)
Eye pressure (to determine if it is too high, or too low)
Posterior ocular health (this is where we see if there is diabetes or other health conditions that can affect the eyes)
